While these things seem cool, the one I used for a while was a massive battery drain on my camera and required the computer to be on in order to have things transfer (normally wouldn’t be a big deal, but with a laptop its a pain). I ended up taking it back and just using an SD to USB adapter.

I can confirm that the rice trick works. My wife’s iPhone fell into the toilet (which had clean water in it at the time). We powered it off and stuck it in a bag of rice for two weeks.
